Embark on a memorable 2-day desert excursion from Marrakech to Zagora. This tour offers a unique opportunity to experience the scenic beauty and cultural richness of southeastern Morocco.

Day 1: Journey to Zagora

Your adventure begins with a 7:20 AM pickup from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. Travel through the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi N’ Tichka Pass at an altitude of 2,260 meters. The journey features winding roads and stunning views of the Berber villages nestled in Imouzzar Valley.

Stop at Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved fortified villages in southern Morocco. Built in the 15th century by the Ait Aissa tribe, this village served as a key stop for caravan traders traveling from Timbuktu to Andalusia. It has also been the backdrop for several famous movies, including “The Gladiator,” “Ali Baba,” “Ben Hur,” and “Lawrence of Arabia.” Enjoy a guided tour to the top of the hill, offering panoramic views of the area.

Continue to Ouarzazate, where you’ll visit the Taourirt Kasbah and take a brief stop to see the city’s cinema studios and old movie sets. After a break for lunch, head to Zagora via Agdez and the picturesque Draa Valley.

Begin your camel ride about a kilometer from Zagora, enjoying the sunset as you make your way to the nomadic camp in the Nekhla dunes. Upon arrival, dinner will be served at the camp, and you’ll spend the night in a private tent, experiencing the tranquility of the desert.

Day 2: Return to Marrakech

Wake up early to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the dunes, followed by a hearty breakfast. You have the option to take a camel trek back to meet your driver.

The return journey takes you through the Draa Valley, with stops along the way to admire the views and enjoy lunch. Arrive back in Marrakech in the late afternoon, enriched by the unforgettable experiences and sights of your desert adventure.

Know before you go

• Customer pick-up starts at 7:00 am but please allow for a wait of 30 minutes due to early morning traffic
• If your accommodation located in an area which cannot be served by the pick-up service, you will be sent an email with details of the nearest meeting point 24 hour before the day of your tour
• Please bring comfortable shoes, sunscreen, a camera and long pants
